April 20 - CRUD had a very good turnout at the Greenland races this past Saturday. In the 50K we had the following finishers. I'll be getting some photos up soon.

Rick Hessek 5th overall.
Joe Kulak 7th overall. (Joe is part of our northern chapter of CRUD)
Matt Von Thun 9th overall. (first Ultra)
Larry Dewitt 13th overall (first Ultra)
Ted Bidwell 15th overall, (1st in his age group. )
Eric Gabe 18th overall.
Keith Grimes 21st overall
Harry Harcrow 22nd overall
Rich Muzzy 32nd overall
Ed Fehrman 36th overall (first true Ultra)
Marilyn Goodloe 43rd overall (first Ultra)
JD Van Lancker 51st overall (first Ultra)
Bruce Huber 56th overall

April 11 - We are now in full swing for the season and are doing flat speed sessions (Tuesdays at Monument Valley Park) and Thursday hill workouts (Barr Trail). Come out and hurt with us.

March 4 - We've had several PRs in the Thur morning run which I've added to the PR page. Please check and let me know if I have missed yours. The yearly PR is what we are using for the handicap (not your all-time PR). Also, we have a lot of new members and I'd like to do another shirt run pretty soon. Let's do the same deal as before; get any shirt you want printed to Rick H by April 1. Be sure to indicate to him if you want the original race shirt, or the newer CREW design.

Dec 30th  - Added the 2004 poster child picture(s). Click on top photo to enlarge.

____________

Dec 26 – Added Paul Sullivan’s and Rich Muzzy’s bios.

____________

Dec 25 – Added Eric Gabe’s bio. Paul Sullivan’s and Rich Muzzy’s will be added soon.

____________

Dec 9 - We want to collect CRUD member PRs for various race distances. Please fill out this form.

Dec 3 - I just added a bunch of races to the 2005 calendar.

Nov 17 - I just added several race reports and member bios. I also added the route profile for out Thur morning tempo run.

Nov 3 - Keith's race report from the Javenlina Jundred is now up. Also, we start our traditional Thursday morning hill tempo runs tomorrow! Starting time is 6:00 am at the Starsmore Discovery Center.

Oct 20 - The season is winding down, but we still have a few things going on. A few weeks ago, Keith won (yes, I said won) a 50 Mile race in Kansas. I just posted his race report. Last weekend, Judy ran her first ultra at the Palo Duro 50K, which Lisa B also ran. At the Mountain Masochist 50 Miler in Virginia, Gordon completed his first ultra! Also at MM50, Rick, Ted, and Paul D ran.

The only real race remaining for anyone is the Javelina Jundred in Arizona, which Keith will be running at the end of the month.

Other than the Wed social runs at the Colo Running Company, we won't be doing any official CRUD runs until after the time changes. I'll be sending out more info, but basically we will start up the Thur Morning tempo runs in Cheyenne Canon the Thur after Halloween.

Sept 27 - Several CRUDers ran the Boulder Backroad races. I also put up a few pictures on the Photos page.

Several of us have started running at 6:00 pm on Wed nights at the Colorado Running Company (downtown at corner of Tejon and Catch the Poodle streets). Come on out for a nice run and then snacks and beer.

Sept 12 - Thanks to all who came to the CRUD party, and especially to the Clarkes for hosting it. I think it is safe to say we all had a great time. Below is a recap of the awards that were given out. Note that some award winners weren't present, so they got squat. Hope to see you all out at our training runs.

There will be an email coming out soon from Cerita probaby about the next T-shirt order. Basically, you will need to provide whatever shirt/sweatshirt, etc you want printed, and then there will be a few choices of things to print on the shirt.

Paul Su was the big winner of the night, taking home quite a few gifts, including a special T-shirt for his wife, Angela, that says, "I'm with the Shirtless Moron."

July 2 - I'm trying to get caught up on this website; send me your PR info for the training runs and any photos you may have from recent races. I just posted one of Rich at San Juan.

June 2 - Rick and Paul just returned from the Western States 100 training weekend, where we got a chance to run about 74 miles of the course over 4 days (we added a 4th day on our own and did the start from Squaw Valley up the pass). The weekend was a great event and I'd recommend it to anyone who has any interest in ever doing WS. The organizers provided bus rides to the start of the runs and aid stations during the runs. There was no snow during the official 3 runs, but we encountered snow near the top of the pass at Squaw Valley and didn't know exactly where to go. It should be melted by race day.

May 27 - We had 7 start, 2 stopped at No Name and the 5 others continued up to the 7.8 sign.

Sat 4/3 Long Run: Meet 7:00 am at Memorial Park in Manitou Springs. We will pick a route based on weather. Amy - just have Scott meet us there and we'll take him on a good run.

Thur 4/08 Barr Trail Hill Climb: Meet at the corner of Ruxton and Hydro Drive (about 100 yards uphill from the Cog station) at 5:15. For the first run, we will use our current Cheyenne canon handicaps and run to the No Name Creek cutoff (this takes most people the same time as their Cheyenne canon times). A few of us plan to then run higher to check the snow conditions for the following week. Please remember to park somewhere other than the Cog parking lots. I suggest parking in Manitou and then using the run up to the cog as your warm- up.

Feb 23, 2004 - Posted pictures from our Moab trip.

Feb 14, 2004 - Red Hot 50Km. Moab, Utah

Feb 5 - The conditions keep getting worse; today the road was actually closed, and we were on either packed snow or powder the whole run. No sub-40s today. But, even in these conditions we had 8 runners (no Eric, no Keith, no Tim, etc.). Gordon won the pineapple.

Feb 2 - Starting tomorrow (Tue Feb 3), Dan and Paul will be doing flat speed workouts on the dirt paths in Monument Valley Park. We will start at Paul's house and jog over to the park for the warm-up. Anyone who is interested is welcome to join us. Meet at 5:00 pm at Paul's house. Each week we will do either a tempo run on the trails, or mile repeats on the trails.

Jan 29 - No Mr. Keith. The current and 4 time winner of the pineapple. Rumor has it he was hungry and ate it. With the road being snow covered for the last mile there were no PR's. Slow day for everyone. Only 2 out of the 9 runners were under 40:00. Gordon B and Steve B came out for the 1st time this year.

Jan 22 - 4 times; who would have ever thought. That's right, Keith won the prized pineapple for the 4th time in a row. On the other end of the spectrum was Eric G, winning the Snail today. All others were about 2 minutes off PR pace due to a lot of snow and ice on the course. It was 16 degrees at the start, making it the coldest day of the season.

Jan 15 - We set a new record with 14 runners showing up. Jeff P is our newest hill climber. Keith won the pineapple for the 3rd time in a row, which ties the record. Rick was our snail today. No ice/snow to speak of, which led to several PRs.

Paul D - 34:43, ties PR

Jan 8: We started of the new year with 13 people showing up, which may be the most ever. Most of the way was snow packed, which kept the times slower than usual. The Handicap system is def. working though, as we had just about everybody in the finishing stretch together. Thanks to Rick for figuring out the handicaps each week. With Tim's approval, I can now say, "we will have more light starting next week."

In order that we took off:

Amy E - ran to dirt parking lot
Lisa B -  ran to dirt parking lot
Keith - 50:25, wins pineapple
Paul Sm - 47:34

Jan 3: Despite the new Las Vegas advertising motto, "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas," I thought I could at least share the results of our run while out there.

2004 Red Rocks Fat Ass 50K (9th year)
Red Rocks Park, outside Vegas
Ascent/Descent: 5400 feet
Low Point: 4200 feet
High Point: 5500 feet
Starters: 27

The course was mostly single track, with a rare snow cover on more than half of the course. It was actually snowing at the parking lot right before the start, but then cleared up and was a very sunny (but windy) day. The course is basically an out and back, with a double loop in the middle that you run in each direction, so you can see the other runners a fair bit. Even though this was a no fee/no aid event, the director had a truck that we passed 3 times in which you could leave drop bags. He also had various snack foods, making it better supported than a lot of races I've paid for.

Ian Torrence - 4:23, 1st for 9th year in a row
Paul D - 4:36, 2nd
Rick H - 5:01, 3rd
Chris C -  5:25, 6th (I think)
Todd Wh - 7:00 (first ultra)

May 27, 2003 - Inspired by Eric G's horrible tempo run performance last week, Paul Sm has proposed that Eric carry a Clay Snail up the trail this week.

May 25, 2003 - PP conditions as reported by Rick: I went to the top on Saturday. Reached the summit at about 9:30 in the morning. Ran back down but if needing a ride it would have been long wait, not one car was in the parking lot. Patches of snow before and after A-Frame that should be mostly gone this week. The deep snow didn't start until about 1/4 mile before the 2 mile sign. From there the trail is snow covered with about 3-4 feet of snow. You have a good idea of where the trail should go even with the snow. That lasted for 500 feet. Then about 1/4 after the 2 mile sign you are on snow once again. Same as before, you have a good idea of where the trail is even with it snow covered. The deep and impassable area's are the 2 switchbacks before you hit the 16 golden stairs. The 16 Golden Stairs are dry. The really deep snow is at the top of the Golden Stairs where the trail goes downhill for about 5 feet. In that bowl area somewhat. Once I reached that area I scrambled up the rocks to the top. Craig has been shoveling a path at the top of that snowfield. But, there is a lot of snow.

May 24, 2003 - Due to the holiday weekend, I think most of us did our own long runs. As for me, I ran a miserable 18 miles in the wind on the Sante Fe trail before heading down to New Mexico for the weekend. Rick was going to see how far up Pikes Peak he could get.

May 22, 2003 - Several new PRs were set on the Thur tempo run to the 7.8 mile sign, but Rick PRd by the most to win the pineapple honor. He was also given a ballon for his efforts. Keith found out he will need surgery on his achilles, to which Paul Su commented, "I thought Keith's gut was his achilles." Eric G won the downhill portion, in a vain attempt to make up for his PW.

May 18, 2003 - Gabe and Sully ran up Barr Trail to the G. Intestine Roberts sign--2.5 miles from the summit. Trail was moderately navigable up to this point but too snowy to proceed further. Total time 4.5 hour.

May 17, 2003 - (From Paul Sm) From the train depot ran to Barr Camp, to Elk Park (breaking trail through knee deep snow from the meadow for about 2 miles and then through intermittant snow fields to about 1/4 mile from the parking lot) back to Barr Camp, up past A-Frame to the 1/2 mile beyond the G. Intestine Roberts sign, and back home via the water pipe loop. (make sure Neal, O., Paul Su, and Eric G don't find out about my training I want to surprise them at the San Juan Solstice 50)

May 17, 2003 - Had a great long run from Paul D's house to the Crags and back. John, Rick, Paul D, and Erik S were there. Had to take evasive measures to avoid the Colo Springs utilities people while on the Catamount Res road. Still some snow up near the Crags. Approx 22 miles.

May 15, 2003 - An afternoon rain shower made for a nice, cool hill tempo run. Despite carrying the pineapple, Paul D was first to the sign again, retaining the pineapple for another week. First ever pineapple repeat. Let's hope next week isn't a three-peat.

May 13, 2003 - Got a race report from Lisa from the Manitou 50 Miler. The race had 4 starters but no finishers, due in part to the entrants getting lost.

May 11, 2003 - Apparently the Turquoise Lake 20K isn't being held this year. I'm sad to see this one go.

May 10, 2003 - Rick, Paul D, and Jackson the dog where the only ones to show for the weekly long run. Still a lot of snow up high in Cheyenne Canon. Saw some of the course markings for the Manitou 50 Miler, but no evidence of runners or volunteers. Post run recovery meal hosted by South 8th street Arbys.

May 8, 2003 - In the absence of any real competition, Paul D wins the pineapple.

May 3, 2003 - Rich Muzzy ran his first ultra, the Desert Classic 50Miler, in 12:45. Dan Vega won the 25 mile option.

May 1, 2003 - Rick wins the pineapple.

April 26, 2003 - Several members drove down to Payson AZ for the Zane Grey Highline 50 Miler. The trip was great, except for the running part.
