Date of Birth: February 1st 1957 Place of Birth/Hometown: Ann Arbor, Michigan Job: Toxicologist, Running shoe salesguy Marital Status: Married to Nancy. Children: 1- Thomas Pets: Rex the dog; Jill the cat; 2 Guinea pigs; Shemp the shrimp; Clem the clam; A few fish, and some corals. Favorite non-running magazine: National Geographic Favorite movie: Dr. Strangelove, and for current movies, the Lord of the Rings series. Favorite television show: The best show involving a television for me would be watching my TV being launched through the living room window! But since that has not happened yet, I watch an occasional sporting event, some science stuff, or maybe a Star Trek or so. Favorite musical performer: I like just about every type of music. I like to see or listen to any musician that writes or performs stuff with some guts. Some of my favorites would be: Jerry - Grateful Dead, Phish, String Cheese Incident, Ravi Shankar, Peter Tosh, Frank Zappa, The Ramones, Iggy Pop, and Rage Against the Machine. Favorite Keith excuse for a sucky race: "I don't know what happened! I think it must be the quads." Craziest place you ever took a dump while on a run: On the side of a big dirt pile that was along side County line road. It was a wide open area, with a few houses around, but I just couldn't make it any further, even though it wasn't far to where there were all kinds of trees! Hobbies: Aquariums, and traveling/wandering. Favorite non-running sport: Snowboarding, Mountain biking, Climbing 14'ers, and Scuba Diving (it's been a while). Favorite famous quote: "Experience is not what happens to you. It is what you do with what happens to you." - Aldous Huxley. Short-term running goal: Continue to get healthier, and run a faster Leadville than the previous year, instead of getting slower every year. Long-term running goal: Some 100's that I haven't tried yet, the grand slam, maybe the Colorado trail, or some trails outside of the U.S. Ultra Pet Peeves: Trash on the trails. Years running ultras: 8 Number of ultra finishes: 8 - 100's, 2 - 100 K's, and about 6 - 40 to 52.4 milers. Most memorable ultra performance and why: All the 100's are special, but probably LT100 '98, because I was over 5 hours faster than the previous year and everything just seemed to click, and '03 because I was able to come back from not being able to run even a step. The 16:51 at Rocky Raccoon in 2002 was nice, because I had no stomach problems and it went real smooth, but I still prefer the challenge and the scenery of the western 100's. Favorite food/drink during an ultra: Ramen (later in the race), water and some sports drinks. Favorite trail: I like them all, except for when they are crowded. Favorite Race: Leadville 100 |
