Training RunsMembers of CRUD get together on Thursdays (mornings in winter, evenings in summer) for hill tempo runs that range in distance from 4 to 6 miles. Our winter runs are up Cheyenne Canon Road from the Starsmore Discovery Center to the top of High Drive (4.2 miles at an average grade of 7.5 percent). Our summer runs start at the corner of Hydro Drive and Ruxton (just above the PP cog station), and run up Barr trail to the 7.8 mile to go sign. This run is 4.2 miles and gains 3010 feet (over 11 percent grade). To make the tempo runs more interesting, and to allow us to all run down easy together after the hard run, we use a handicap system to help insure that everyone is finishing close to each other. This allows our faster and slower runners to compete on even footing. The winner (first across line, not the fastest) must carry a wooden pineapple up the hill the next week. On Tuesday evenings, we run speed workouts on the dirt paths in Monument Valley Park. Somebody is always running long on Saturdays or Sundays, so it is easy to find a partner or group most weekends. Rather than running the same course every weekend, we strive for variety and are always checking out new trails.
Run Times:
Tue Evenings (spring/summer) - meet at the North End of Monument Valley Park at 5:00 pm.
